Using the wallchart
The wallchart is the month-view calendar on your dashboard. It shows who’s off, what type of leave they’re on, and which days are public holidays or locked — all in one view.
Reading the wallchart
Section titled “Reading the wallchart”Each row is a team member; each column is a day of the month. A coloured block means that member is on leave, with the colour corresponding to the leave type (set under Settings → Leave types).
- Full-day leave fills the whole cell.
- Half-day leave fills the left half (AM) or right half (PM).
- Public holidays are shaded across all rows in a subtle tone.
- Locked dates have a distinctive pattern so you know the dates are marked — leave booked over them doesn’t deduct from the member’s balance. See locked dates.
- Non-working days (weekends, or whatever your org’s work pattern excludes) are dimmed.
Hover over a block to see the leave type and who booked it. Click to open the request details — from there you can cancel your own request or, if you’re an approver, review it.
Cancelling a group booking
Section titled “Cancelling a group booking”If the block came from a group booking, the cancel confirmation gives you two options instead of one:
- Just this person — cancels only the selected member’s slot and restores their balance. Available to anyone who could otherwise cancel that member’s leave.
- Whole group — cancels every still-active row in the group at once. Manager+ only; managers can cancel groups whose members are all in their department, admins can cancel any group.
Already-cancelled or rejected rows in the group are left alone, so cancelling the whole group a second time is harmless.
Booking from the wallchart
Section titled “Booking from the wallchart”Click any empty future cell to jump to Request leave with that date pre-filled. This is usually faster than opening the form from the nav when you know which day you want.
Navigating months
Section titled “Navigating months”Use the previous/next month buttons above the chart to scroll through the year. The wallchart always opens on the current month.
Who you can see
Section titled “Who you can see”By default, everyone in the organization sees the full wallchart — this is what makes it useful for spotting team coverage gaps.
Admins can turn on Hide other departments under Settings → Organization. With this on, members only see colleagues in their own department. Use it if you have separate business units that don’t need to see each other’s leave, or for privacy reasons.
Spotting conflicts
Section titled “Spotting conflicts”The wallchart is designed for visual conflict-spotting: if you’re about to book a week off, scan the row for that week and see who else is already away. If your team has a rule like “no more than two people off at once,” the chart makes that obvious before you submit.
Admins can enforce this more strictly with max absent on a department (see departments) — Deckchair blocks non-admin submissions that would push the department over the limit on any day.
What the wallchart doesn’t show (yet)
Section titled “What the wallchart doesn’t show (yet)”- Sickness patterns over time — the chart is month-by-month only; there’s no year-overview heatmap.
- Capacity planning — no “percent of team available” roll-up row. Watch for this in future releases.
